How Colitis Symptoms Will Affect You

When diagnosed with any disease, there is always concern about what you will face both physically and mentally yet with colitis symptoms it is not as straight forward as being aware of what they are and then expecting them to occur. It is a disease that can appear to have a mind of its own and each of the colitis symptoms can differ in their intensity.

The three most common symptoms of ulcerative colitis are the appearance of diarrhoea, the evidence of blood when a bowel motion occurs and a degree of pain in the abdominal area. The good news, if it can be described as such, is that these symptoms do vary from one sufferer to the next. Though this does not mean that a colitis patient will experience all three as this will depend on the strength of the attack. This strength in tuen will depend on the extent of the inflammation of the large colon plus also how much of the inflammation has actually become active.

The symptoms can vary in their strength from nuisance level when you will feel mostly fine, and they can disappear as quickly as they appeared, to occasions where they emerge and develop into a full blown relapse. Such intensity can reduce your daily experiences to that of either sitting on the toilet or awaiting your next trip there. Coupled with abdominal pain, each time your bowel opens it is no surprise that a fourth symptom, that of tiredness plays a major part when suffering from colitis.

Your daily life may been restricted to the requirement of going to the toilet many times yet this in itself is tiring when coupled with what can be severe pain. This of course results in an extremely debilitating set of circumstances that will have the result of leaving you very tired and weary. It is important to acknowledge that taking rest is vital to conserve what little energy you have plus not forgetting the need to remain passive so as to reduce the number of times that you are required to visit the toilet.

A further symptom will be the reduced appetite though there will be times where the reverse is true and you will have a real desire to eat from strong hunger pangs yet the consequences of doing so will be to exacerbate the symptoms. If this scenario occurs, it is prudent to find a method of keeping the hunger at bay yet ensuring that the active symptoms are not increased by doing so.

Being able to endure a period of colitis symptoms, whether slight or from a full relapse takes strength, both mental and physical. Many sufferers are unaware that the ferocity of the symptoms can strengthen due to being provoked unintentionally. A colitis sufferer needs to understand the cause and effect of their actions on the occurrence and strength of the symptoms and adopt effective colitis management solutions to ensure that the impact is kept to a minimum.
